Absolutely...
I'm still in the beginning stages of my 'Professional' IT Career. There's still so much I want to do for IT sake and so much I want to do for helping people in general. Its actually a passion and it brings instant joy for me to help people in need for computer issues/network issues, etc.. However, that also makes me an easy welcome mat for some, and that can be hard to handle sometimes. Finding that balance between savior and soothsayer is near impossible, but I think with the way things are, if you're honest enough to your customer/client/whatever, and you give it to them straight their options, I found that some take it fairly well.
Not to say that some don't fly off the handle, or moan and groan about the costs, etc..
The IT field is stressful, extremely competitive, and can kill you like any other job. It's also fun, exciting with brand new things coming out every quarter. Dangerous in some sectors.
Would I change my occupation? Yes, but it would be something in the IT field as I don't think I'd like anything else...there are some skills I think I'd like from working in other jobs like construction or management or...well hell you can get some decent skill working in a fast food joint if you look at it the right way. Would I like to change my job professionally to them? Nope.
Ultimately us in the IT industry are quickly becoming the world's first, and last line of defense against the worst things out in this world. We're littered everywhere from mom and pop shops to high profile defense contractors globally, military, and to your local neighborhood start ups. We come from all walks of life and seemingly at all ages. IT is diverse, it's ever-changing, ever-growing and rapidly needs improvements along the way.
Sure I hate the nuances - everything in that list hit it dead on the head...but I'm a one trick pony at the moment. I know I.T. and I don't think I would want it any other way until someone forces me to go into *FARMING* :-p
