I don't think it's a particularly friendly language for beginners, although it's a tad friendlier than C/C++. If I were in your shoes, I'd take my Javascript experience and work it up to guruhood. Once you've got a firm grasp of the prototype object model and a good functional style using closures, then other languages will make more sense to you -- including Go. Ruby or Python might also make good stepping stones.
