2b, heavy readers. You've gone down a 'straw man' (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man) route here to argue this point. It's not about just about the sunlight or the speed of the download - it's about the back-lit screen and the tiring effect this has on your eyes. The low resolution is also to blame.
2c. It's not just 'techies' that oppose open-standards. Closed, proprietary technology inhibits innovation.
