I agree with J.Ja. If you can do the job that I need done, and if I can afford to pay you x for it (and not much more than x...this is BUSINESS, not entitlement), then whether you "deserve" more or not, that's what you'll get. Or that's what your replacement will get. The only reason you really should get paid more is that what you do (or what you CAN do) is worth more to the one who is paying for it. Period.
