Isn't Windows 8 supposed to be about the seamles integration
of all computing platforms?

In a world where we have desktops and laptops and netbooks and tablets and smartphones, there is a very big need to mesh all of those platforms with a seamless OS that can work well with all of them, with power and features that recognize the specific features available within each platform and intelligently optimizes the OS to handle the feature set for the specific platform and provides for intelligent integration with whatever other platforms the user indicates he/she wants to connect with. The result should be an OS which won't be recognizable as intended for any specific computing form-factor, and that it should be one that works well with all platforms. Thus, it will be like having the power of a full-fledged OS on a smartphone or tablet, while not being a hog when it comes to using resources and power, and at the same time, having all the platforms with the capability of being networked, across a local network or across the internet. Can Windows 7 do that? I hope Windows 8 can deliver something close to that.
