It might have nothing to do with the shell -- it might actually depend on the display manager the particular system uses.

Writing a script that can automate network mounting on login is pretty easy. The difficulty comes in when figuring out how your specific setup provides a means for triggering the script. If you initiate an X session from the shell with the startx command, it's pretty simple to put something in the .xinitrc file to run the script for you. If you use a display manager that starts automatically with a login screen when you boot the computer, however, things can get a bit less certain.
