My wife owns the Kobo Book Reader and she loves it. The features I must admit are not as impressive as the ones listed above. I do not own a book reader but have these apps installed on my iTouch and Kobo by far has the cheapest prices for books that I've noticed. That is a pretty big feature to me!

Rather, it was purchased by Amazon and some, but not all of its features were incorporated into the Kindle app. That eReader was Stanza. I still have it on my iPad and iPhone and it offers one ability that I prize above all others; color choice of text and background beyond white text on black or black on white/sepia. Quite honestly, I've found that amber on black is extremely easy on the eyes especially in low-light environments. The ability to adjust brightness with just a swipe of the finger and change font size with a pinch of the fingers is the most intuitive and simplest of all the readers.Quite honestly, Stanza is the app I go to first when I want to read a book on my iPad or iPhone because of this.

I use Kindle for Android on my Samsung Moment and I'm able to highlight text. Tap where you'd like the highlight to start, keep your finger on the screen, and drag to where you'd like it to end. An on-screen menu pops up from which you can select "highlight." Do the same to remove the highlighting.
