Problem is cheap glasses!
Some theaters have invested in the highest quality 3d screens, projector lenses and, hugely important, provide better quality polarized glasses. The blurry muddy experience you talk about is not necessary. Yet again, it is "cheap is just as good" proving that you really have to do it right or not at all. The best 3D I've seen was from a 3D monitor with really good shutter glasses. Yuch, you say, but that is what it takes to show you what 3D is capable of. It can be breathtaking or terrible. Rather like the overall movie experience.
If you want to experience the immersion, run farcry-2 in 3d mode and put away the guns and drive around the African velt and jungles.
