I've been unemployed for nearly 5 years, and I am over 50. I get bypassed by internal HR teams and recruitment agencies all the time now, Organizations I have been employed by or contracted to? Accenture, Cisco and DHL, amongst others. And I've moved extensively for my work, my location is not a hindrance.

There is definitely age and gap discrimination everywhere! I am working now as an independent contractor (and there are not that many jobs out there - small businesses cannot afford good contractors, and large corporations tend to stick to the large consultancies) delivering cloud computing solutions for the past 5 years - long before the cloud became a great marketing bandwagon.

Still, not a peep from any really clever recruitment agency or HR department.
