I don't see any concrete difference beween message and object, more like point particle / wave duality in quantum mechanics.
Some aspects are best described by thinking it of it as one or the other.

It's not a message or an object, a powerful description of it will simply be consistent. i.e. it won't morph from one to the other in mid sentence, which some people do on occasion with results that run from outright confusing to hilarious.
