I kept more notes than anybody I knew. Also left lots of hints in the program as to where new features should be added etc. Saved many screen captures of conversion steps as well. The final conversion could be put off for months and I didn't worry. If it didn't work exactly like the 20 or 30 screen captures indicated then the data had changed.

Most of the conversion programs were only run ONCE. Efficiency didn't matter much.
