What I find interesting with my job
Or probably more precisely the job I used to do when I worked for a part way decent Boss instead of myself was their mindset.
I and the department that I ran was a necessary Evil that was required to maintain sales. If they could have done away with us and still maintained sales that would of in a heartbeat without a second thought.
That was something I could never understand as selling a new unit was a very involved process and honestly we made more money repairing the existing product as apposed to selling new. I could never understand the fixation on selling new product at all costs when it wasn't as profitable as maintaining what you had already sold. Now with cheap PC's it's different maybe but back in the Mainframe days that is how all companies gaged their success the number of new sales this year and not the number of units that they had in service.
