You are so correct here. At least developers get to show that they produced something. Even my DBA says that my job is harder than his in that sense. Management gives him a task to do and he has something to show for it. Additionally, he has time to test and make sure his coding works, before management even sees it. A sizable majority of my job is preventing something bad from occuring. If something bad does happen, then it is my fault for not knowing that it was going to fail before hand. If nothing does fail, no one knows that I succeeded.
