Facebook, Google+, et al are returning us to the Walled Garden paradigm. That is, providing games, immediate communications between "friends" (IM and chat), groups, and the more while containing and controlling everything within the online boundries of the service.

And that's worked out so well for AoL, Compuserve, and Prodigy of late, hasn't it.
