Jason I made the suggestion for circles to face book a year ago but it fell on deaf ears. I was particularly interested in controlling my child's inner circle of FB friends. Considering that the web is full of perps I have tried to manage my childs privacy so they don'f fall victim to scams. FB reply was that all users must be over the age of 18 to have an account! Just browsing through user accounts you see that is not necessary true. I applaud FB for improving privacy, but it wont stop the perps on the Beiber fan page.

I know this is an old post, but I can't help but respond. Your reaction to everything social is entirely emotional, and your logic is entirely skewed as a result. The primary values you hold dear are safety and privacy. But as others have attempted to help you understand, that value is not shared by the general public. Others (myself included) are far more interested in relationships and interacting with people. We realize that FB isn't entirely safe and secure, but that's the case with the *entire Internet*. Want to be safe? Get offline.None of these sites will be gone in 3 years. Most of them will be bigger than they are now. And you will still be complaining.

I was active in a vertical industry forum. It had good discussions with people of different backgrounds. Now it is most tyros who want someone else to make their decisions for them (my printer just died what should I buy) or chatting because they are bored (business is slow today, why is that). With all the computing power they have how hard is it to search and ad words request for trademarks and web sites with that name?
