We had a 40x96 crossbar matrix to control the peripherals for the radios. 4 fully-loaded 38" racks, with 8 more racks of control and tone generation equipment. Here I was, a freshly minted radio maintenance troop expecting a fully loaded tool box with all the neat toys, and all I got was a relay contact burnishing tool and a four-inch thick binder of signal routing diagrams!
