I noticed that something was different but then I wasn't really certain. Seemed the Google logo was smaller, that and the bar across the top. As for anything else, doesn't really change how I use it or such.
but I use Google for search only; no apps, no mail.
I don't see much difference in the search function. I think there's something different at the bottom of the home page, like a copyright notice or something similar that isn't there anymore. That's all that's I'm consciously aware of; the results pages look the same.

Google have changed look in maximum application. That's good for users. Users will see some new design and attract more to see at least one time. But, what will users will get benefits behind it? Does it matter? Google wants to compete Facebook. This is fact statement and even blind person can understand it. According to my concern, Google wants to create more attentions towards users with launch of Google+. What you think about it?
what few ui elements there were to interact with the apps?
idiots
can't use them anyway, even before the ui changes because they don't have controls.

The one change that I really noticed -- and hate -- is the loss of being able to configure how search results are displayed. You used to be able to set the number of results per page, the language filtering, and whether links opened in a new window. Now all the choices are gone.
I'm logged in and I have all these options still by clicking the gear icon at the top right. If you don't have that, try going to http://www.google.com/preferences?hl=en and see if you can set those options.
I don't mind the look of the new calendar but I can't see my events. It only shows for the current day or one event days. Other days is shows "+2 events." Not very helpful for me.
I didn't even notice it until someone pointed it out. It's up at the top, out of the way, and takes up minimal space.
What about it irks you?

Script error. Does this count as an annoyance?
Of course, almost every site errors

The interface anyways, not the glaring security holes. But the interface was clean and usable, as a browser should be. It was extremely light weight, even on my ancient system, load times are almost instant (page load times aren't but who is to say where that bottle neck is...). It almost never crashes. It doesn't support most of the viral scripts out there
.
I never really thought tabs that important, especially in its day, when tabbed browsers were prone to crashing and losing everything. Why not just have multiple instances of a program running? In the days of crashing software, it seemed like a good idea to me.
Of course, now-a-days I have 3 levels on my taskbar, and 20 tabs open in two browsers.
