And you've forgotten that it's not free
The reason youi can still run your 98 program is it niot taking advantage of features of subsequent operating systems, or it's ineffeciciently using some real or psuedo emulation layers. Not to mention there will be gaps in it in terms of interacting with the OS, and security within it.

Remeber the hooraw from XP to Vista, or VB6 to VB.Net, not even MS agree with you...
