Don't forget that even the best distributor is still a sales organization. I have had accounts "poached" when they call in for technical support. Also, some of their inside reps will do a follow up call to "make sure everything is working well". Then it's, "By the way, WE offer these items, services, etc". Then you're out the door. Tell me how to make that relationship bulletproof, not this "blue sky" article above. 18 Years in sales, service, design, etc. Well paid? Not since the recession.

I agree that would be great if they could actually provide all those services and get accurate information. I have used all those distributors and many more, but when they make a hundred dollar mistake or a multiple thousand dollar mistake guess who ends up owning the mistake. In addition to the sales staff turnover, if you could find a company that could do all this, your great sales rep will be moving on to a better job. Over the long haul how is a distributor going to provide the level of service you are talking about on their tiny margins? I picture on newegg and some customer reviews are worth a lot.I got hosed over just last month because Ingram couldn't configure and deliver a working simple little Compaq server.... And on it goes. - 19 years independent consultant, most of then well paid
