I cannot get this utility to clear the Administrator password. I made sure I selected to write the new configuration or password. It states the configuration is saved. However, it does not change or clear the Administrator password. I tried in Windows 2008 and Windows 7 Professional. What am I doing wrong?

Correction. The utility would clear the Windows 7 Administrator password. However, I cannot clear the Windows Domain Administrator password.

Did he mention why windows defragmenter is insufficient?

... either an older system that has a somewhat small HDD in it or an entire day that you don't intend to use your system at all, but can still leave it running, then Windows Defragmenter is just fine.

However, in a time where a 500GB HDD for a new desktop system is considered small, Windows Defragmenter will take far too long for most user's comfort.

We have customers that buy our systems with 500GB HDDs and can fill them up to 75% usage in a month. When we have to service a system, if it requires a defrag, then we start it in the morning and leave it running all day for it to complete.

This is not what you want to do on your own systems, is it?

i have been using ccleaner and offline nt password and registery editor for while it really gets the job done. About remote support im using crosslop and teamviewer

I have used CrossLoop but find that TeamViewer does the same thing and is just a little better IMHO. The install is pretty straight forward and I have used it multiple times with no issues. The last time I tried to get a customer to use CrossLoop it was clunky for my end user, and I stopped using it officially after that. Team Viewer has never given me a problem, ever.

I use a site called ninite.com, it has most of these plus others that are all free. Easy to download and install. Another little tool I like is Speccy. It can tell you at a glance your bios ver, memory type, speed and manufacturer, video details and more.
I use teamviewer instead of crossloop, found it much easier to setup.

Hi: I read your column and sometimes wonder if these recommendations are ligit. I use Norton 360 which is suppose to do all of those things but I have to pay for it. Are you saying that I can get some of these things done inspite of having Norton on my system and have no problem using them together?

I find that a key maintenance tool is TreeSize free.
When HDD space is running low, and computer performance is suffering, it very quickly finds the files that are taking up the space, and shows the path to where they are located, enabling them to be deleted quickly and easily (if that is the solution).
It is one of the essentials for my software toolbox.
