Stupid Techs
I worked at FRYS in Fort Worth Tx, as a Manager and we had a customer come in for a hard drive upgrade. I wrote out the entire service agreement. Basically we are going to upgrade the old drive with a new one, copy the entire drive to the new one and save the old one in the box as a backup drive in case something happens. I went to lunch this pretty simple install was even assigned to me so that it would not get messed up. I cam back and the AS400 Techs were bored and decided to try to work on the machine and were putting things back on the shelf. I took the computer down and started the upgrade. The factory seal was broken... IT WAS intact when I checked it in. The Hard drive box was opened and the drive was gone the box was completely empty... I powered up the unit to see what was going on... The drive had not system on it... Now I am panicking since it booted up fine at check in... I asked around and no one knew anything about how this all happened....... I then opened the unit to find the drives installed BOTH. I then really investigated this and found that the old drive was wiped clean and the new one was the master drive while the old one was slaved...... I then started to look at the new one to figure out why there was no system since one of the techs mentioned they did the work and copied all the data over to the new drive after installing the software BIOS program to enable ATA mode. PROBLEM the IBM uses a auto config and ATA MODE is detected after several boots so the software is not needed. They used it. Then before booting they "MOVED" the software from the old drive to the new one.... OK Clearly the old one WAS to be removed and saved as a backup...... So before checking to see what the BIOS settings were and that the New drive would even boot up they cleared it......... I ran every recovery program we had at the store and later found out that they WIPED the drive and removed the partition, back then the tools to fix this were not very good so had nothing to recover. I then called the customer and let them know what happened and that the computer was a total loss. Now this computer belonged to a LAWYER!!!!!!!! I quit that day. STUPID AS400 TECHS the Service Order clearly said to leave alone until I could do all the work myself. They tried to blame it all on my while I was at lunch and when we looked at the logs the computer was check in and out for work during my lunch hour by them.
