I use an external HD and run driveDumper to save off my HD's configuration. It will ignore page files, and boot sector if you tell it too. The old method was called ghosting but it required you first boot up in DOS. driveDumper is better because it is point and click, but it does require you add in visual_C++ extensions during the setup.

Ah the usual iTrolls... a little slow off the mark this time? One thing I always notice about those who move to OS X as an alternative to actually learning how to use/secure a PC - something which used to be considered basic IT skills - is that when things go wrong (whether it be directly related to OS X or a poorly written app) they start screaming that their Mac is broken without any idea how to solve the problem/s themselves. This is not a bashing of Apple products, but those twits who think that users knowing nothing about the configuration of their system, or knowing how to troubleshoot, is a good thing - regardless of the OS!

Especially the whiny IT 'help'ers who -1ed my defense of this type of article back to 0 in the last 2 days. They must totally despise those who need basic PC help. Perhaps they fear they'll lose out on jobs if new users learn how to properly set up a new PC. They swap stories disparaging users; then they RESENT a re-posted article that empowers users with knowledge. I guess the more that users learn, the less relevant those who help them for profit (while mocking them to each other) will become.....as if PC basics are 'secrets of magic' that should not be shared with the Great Unwashed. Get over yourselves, whiny little geeks (you know which ones you are).
