You can't continue to be in denial all your life, and eventually, you have to start to realize that, perhaps you've been wrong on so many beliefs for so long. Even I, as a liberal, had to start examining what I was actually supporting with my liberals beliefs, and though it was tough to admit, I had to give in to the reality that liberalism was actually very damaging to the country and to the people.
