Makes sense to me. With the way HP has gutted their R&D over the past two decades, it's very possible that they tried to rush the product to market without sufficient time to test/debug.

I think one takeaway is to recognize that Apple and Android really did a superb job of product engineering and marketing, which is rare in the tech industry. They hit home runs. And when you're in the home run derby, anything less is a strike out.
