not so thankful
> I would think you would be thankful for the work it's provided you

People who enjoy solving technical problems enjoy solving them once, then moving on to tackle new problems. We like to build new, exciting things on top of what we've built before.

What we generally do not enjoy is using a bucket to scoop water leaking into our basements to keep the foundation from being compromised, bringing the whole house down.

Dealing with incompatibilities between clients and buggy, broken behavior in recalcitrant software like IE is the opposite of what we enjoy about our work. These days, enjoyment is the only good reason to get into IT, because it's not the profitable job field it once was. Businesses treat us like cost centers on their balance sheets rather than human beings who provide value, the job market sucks, and the biggest software vendors are making our lives harder all the time.

We're thankful when we get the opportunity to make a little money by doing something useful and interesting. We're not so thankful when people use the threat of loss of wages (by being fired if we don't do everything they want) to get us to do tedious, frustrating things that feel like getting pushed back two steps for every step we take forward.
