That's the point. Yes, if Microsoft were out of the picture there would be a tremendous opportunity for others to fill the void and fix the problems. But the point is the time of transition to a post-Microsoft world. It doesn't take long for stock markets to crash and for criminals to take advantage of a dead operating system. Microsoft is replaceable but the cost would be great indeed.
