Figure out your needs then decide
I have been using Windows tablets since they first came out. I still use one every day. You just can't beat it for real Enterprise Applications and ease of use on an Enterprise Network.
That being said, I wanted to try using something smaller to carry around in my back pocket and to hold it in one hand and take handwritten notes while at work. I also wanted something that would turn on instantly. Most of these user needs could not be met by my Windows Tablet. That may change with Windows 8 and the Solid State Drive. I'm hearing rumors of an 8 second boot time.
None of my needs could be met with an iPad or the larger 10" Android Tablets. That is why I chose the HTC Flyer. I love it. I use it everyday all day. All of my handwritten notes are synched to EverNote, DropBox and Microsoft OneNote so I can view and search them on any networked device.
But ya know what? Even if Apple made a 7" iPad that supported real handwritten notes, I would not purchase it because of the Hotel California-like environment that Apple imposes on the user and the iPad's reliance on iTunes. There are way too many free music players out there to choose from rather than saddling yourself with that slow as molasses piece of junk.
Also, unlike the iPad, the Android is a stand alone device. I didn't need a separate computer at all to set up my Flyer or to copy my music. You can't say that about an iPad.
What happened to HP's tablet? Who really knows? I thought they bought Palm for WebOS to break into the tablet market. Instead they made a half-hearted attempt to market the TouchPad and quickly threw it away. Go figure.
And the Playbook is too quirky for me.
The bottom line is, figure out what you need the device to do and get one that is the closest match. That's what I did.
