but the deficiencies of Bob's Non-Name facial tissues are not automatically assumed to be deficiencies of the official Kleenex brand and if a pain killing medication causes harm the official Aspirin brand does not get slandered for the failure of the no-name pharmaceutical.
It is not the same in the software market where someone has a crap experience with a beta copy of Ubuntu and proclaims loud and wide that "Ubuntu is broken therefore all versions of Ubuntu and any other thing based on 'Linux'". worse still, the mus-representation is actually promoted by detractors to the point that they gleefully confuse even many in the IT industry let alone outside of it.
