some countries in latin america with respect to wages... 11% of the population controls almost 75% of the wealth? CEO's are making upwards of 400 times the annual salary of the average worker?

Historically revolutions have already been started and finished over such disparity. So why haven't the peasants grabbed their pitchforks yet?

ADDENDUM (10/5/2011): And the answer is -

Easy.

I guess it's a matter of perception and experience.

it is odd that personal experience can be translated to wholesale cultural bias. I stand behind Mr. Twain's quote as paraphrased by Palmetto, but let us not confuse facts with statistical methods.

The fact of wage disparity and unemployment is accurate based on BLS and Census numbers. Thus with completely non sarcastic puzzlement I ask again, why is there so little public outcry?

Four potential combinations:
We're like Santee... well... that's poetic, but not a likely intent.
Santee is scared of the rich and powerful ... also unlikely
Santee is the rich and powerful... while wealth and power can be defined as other things which Santeewelding doubtlessly possesses in abundance, the conventional meanings are likely not the case.

Just one taget of identification left wink

Starting?

Whaddaya mean, "starting"? None of the facts are new, despite the probably worked-over presentation method.

Reagan's selling out the country to large corporations circa 1982. Perhaps you and I operate on different time scales... happy
Seems they were serious about the "Our Hemisphere" line.
And people still say that Milton Friedman was a great economist... of course, they say the same thing about that failed painter from Austria, because they're idiots.

of numbers from an outfit called "OnlineMastersDegree.com", especially since the only viable career option it lists requires ... a masters degree.

Lies, damn lies, statistics.
of one of their "graduates".
Like, 0 maternal leave?
Over here maternal leave is one of the cornerstones of keeping the economy healthy.
Illegal to fire a woman on maternal leave, too. Employers get busted for unlawful termination on that count every damn year.

FMLA
Charles Bundy Updated - 2nd Oct 2011
family members are allowed up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave in the good ole U.S.A. (http://www.dol.gov/whd/fmla/) This assumes you are not a small business with fewer than 7 employees (I think).

I assume the 0 maternity days would have to be paid leave of which there would be none. Or a small business, again you get none.

Are they paid where you live?

I'd call it Braille.

It is exclusionary and blind to the world I know.
that they will work you like a dog here if you let them.

BTW, "OnlineMastersDegree.com" did provide their sources in the small print.

Ok! One question...

Why does the picture of the female intern look so familiar?
And why is there something like a big magnifying glass poised to examine something on her skirt?
What are they insinuating?
How Does The US WORKFORCE MEASURES UP? Well, how about working with a company for 20 years and they decides to sell the jobs of 73 employees who have done everything to make this company very profitable. Now this company is worth Billions they sold us for a measly 25 million. Did not offer any of the 73 jobs, within their corporation, did not give us a severance package, just told us, we were no longer needed.
