Or maybe you never took the time to learn all you could do with it. When I plug my Android in I get 4 options of what it's behaviour could be:

1. Charge only (act dumb)
2. Mass Storage (My favorite and what yours did)
3. Web Portal (Hosts a website where you can do all sorts of functions from your PC web browser)
4. Manufacturer specific sync software (Something you certainly didn't have)

Not all Androids are created equal. It is unfair to slam a whole ecosystem based on one device and compare it to an ecosystem that consists of one device. It's like comparing Apples to fruit stores.
