Admitting weakness is always tough
We'll probably never know all the details of Apple's decision to fire Charlie, so difficult to comment further on that. But the more "important" a company or person is, the tougher it always is to admit a weakness gracefully and then fix it equally gracefully. We find it in ourselves, in reality, too. I remember too well a boast by Oracle many years' ago that no-one would ever find bugs in their products (when rather a lot were being found in Microsoft's): that boast thankfully hasn't been heard for years now. We won't crack security problems by hiding: when dealing with cyber-terrorists (or whatever you want to call them), you have to be right every time to be successful, they only need to get it "right" (by their definitions) just once to be successful.
