...I've met plenty of Trekkies that claim Voyager is their favorite series. Of course, they were all in their mid-20s or younger, which may explain a lot of the affinity. happy
Seriously, is it some kind of geek right of passage that you must hate Voyager to be a true Trekkie? I happened to love VOY. I loved DS9, I loved TNG, but Voyager isn't by any means a horrible series.

If you want terrible, watch Enterprise. Otherwise, get off your high horse and admit that half the reason why most alleged 'trekkies' hate Voyager is because it has a female Captain.

There are so many reasons to hate V'ger that don't involve anyone's gender (or race). For starters, let's talk about how the ship was nearly destroyed every week and next week it was mysteriously in good repair again.
And don't forget, Voyager could land on planets, which would make hull repairs a lot easier.

Yes, it could land on planets that could aid in repairs (well, except maybe in 'fluidic space' - a plot twist I thought was a bit arcane...) but when you look at the 7-year span of the show, and the coincidental 7-year jaunt through the Delta quadrant... each show would average about 2-weeks apart...

Now, I liked Voyager, for the most part. Yes, the episodes Jay wrote about really weren't that good, but there *were* a lot of good episodes to the show; but there were some plot 'forks' for wont of a better term that I felt didn't do the show justice and sometimes the writing really did fall flat.

Hopefully it goes without sayin'... IMHO. Just had to throw that one out there.... wink
see, he started out with the easy part; doing the "worst of" of each series... but he's also promised to do the "best of", which should be fun when he comes to Voyager wink

I did watch a few episodes of voyager, and I thought I saw "potential for potential" in it. It could have been very good (when looking at the basic concepts), but I agree with Jay that it succeeded in failing that, against all odds, even.

But pink salamanders that are allergic to water, what's not to love about that? confused silly wink

Tentative schedule:
Dec. = Worst of Enterprise
Jan. = Trek Movies - Worst to First
Feb. = Best of TOS
Mar. = Best of TNG
Apr. = Best of DS9
May = Best VOY
Jun. = Best of ENT

And if anyone has nominations, I'll welcome them.

For worst Trek movies, how does one choose? They are all pretty incredibly bad. At least IV had some (way cliché) silliness.

Come June you are showing a Best of Enterprise surely that is a Misprint isn't it?

I know here it was considered as So Bad that even the Pirates refused to rip off any of the series and the Retail Arm here had to resort to Massive Discounts to run out the small stock that they brought in to begin with.

While most incantations of Trek had their problems Enterprise stood out all by itself as being Cruelly Awful. I expected the first year to be bad till the Actors got into the Story Line and the Crew got used to working with the cast, However Enterprise never seemed to hit it's stride and the Script Writers never seemed to come up with anything even remotely badgering on Original.

I'm sure there where some episodes that where not Cruelly Abysmal but claiming that they are the Best of Enterprise is only a weak attempt to make out that some episodes where not Cruelly Bad.

Voyager.... Year of Hell
ENT .... In a Mirror, Darkly; Carbon Creek
TOS ... The City on the Edge of Forever; Space Seed
TNG ... (too many to name, but) The Inner Light, Yesterday's Enterprise, Cause and Effect, Disaster, Timescape, Parallels, The Best of Both Worlds, and All Good Things (I told you, too many)
And I am sure there are others as well.
But then they had a time machine aided reset at the end so it didn't last any time at all...

Brannon Braga, Joe Menosky, and Kenneth Biller simply weren't of the same level as Ron Moore. More to the point, NextGen and DS9 had a a much more diverse writing staff, whereas Braga and Berman kept a much smaller pool of writers producing more episodes, which leads to repetitive plots and themes. Once Jeri Taylor left the show, it became very cookie cutter and recycled NextGen tropes like crazy.

I had no problem with the female captain. I had a problem with Berman and Braga wasting the first female captain in retread stories.
She was very dry, which is a nice change from the, shall we say "fruitier" flavor of the male captains wink

The only one hating on the captain is you. I hate Voyager because it was a badly done series. It trashed it's own premise. We have to ration everything but the power hungry holodeck, the maquis turn into best buddies in 3 episodes, and they kill off the only semi interesting character to replace her with a girl in a catsuit that emphasize her breast, uh borg implants. Real equality there. The plots were mostly technobable stupidity. Enterprise was actually better then voyager but not by very much. The only Star Trek series I really liked was DS9. It had plots and did meaningful stories, had for the most part a great collection of actors. Only a handful of TNG is really any good and the rest is Star Drek.

people hate voyager because it wasted potentially good characters and had horrific, unimaginative plots.

Janeway actually shined as a potent leader, when the writers and producers hit it on more than a few cylinders, which was not often. She was probably the most wasted talent on the show.

I don't know of anyone who criticized there being a female in the lead.

Star Wars is the same way. In order to be a "true" Star Wars fan you MUST hate the new movies. Well guess what guys some people like the new movies, some people like Voyager, and some people like Enterprise. So if anyone is wrong it would be the ones that say "Your not a true fan because you dont like/hate ..."

Had promise
ssharkins@... 19th Nov 2011
Enterprise had promise until they got stuck in the Zindy mess... lost me that season.
"I know! Let's name the new series after the 'baddie' in the worst Trek movie, EVER!"

Janeway had a chance to get the crew back home on a very regular basis. She always chose not to, for some "noble" reason every time, keeping her crew in their all-but-marooned state. It's a wonder they didn't mutiny and throw her out the airlock.

"Let's name the new series after the 'baddie' in the worst Trek movie,"

If you're referring to 'V'ger' in the first movie, you've forgotten that 'ST 5: Final Frontier' is unquestionably the worst movie in the original series franchise.

Dude... did you ever see Star Trek V? Even Paramount tried to deny its existence for *years*... and for good reason. I usually don't support rewriting history to your own liking, but in this case, I think Paramount was justified.... I'll admit, Star Trek I was a slow, plodding, 44-minute-episode stuffed into a 2 hour movie, but IMHO not in the same league of bad as Star Trek V.

In December, Enterprise gets what's coming to it, then in January I'll rank the movies worst to first.
... as maybe this will "reveal too much" of the spoiler... but for your movie list, do you think you'll interleave *all* of the movies together (ST-Original through ST-Remake) or are you going to separate the ST-TOS from the ST-TNG and list them separately? - IMHO, all the movies together could create a bit more 'lively' debate amongst the fanbase... wink

Either way, I'm looking forward to the list...

And it will include the 2009 reboot.
Wasn't bad, really.
Considering the rampant timeline-paradox mayhem of the original time-lines (more like time-jumbles), the reboot premise is entirely within acceptable boundaries.
She just wanted to keep her little kingdom to herself... if she returned home, she'd have to follow orders from people less competent than her wink

Did anyone ever call her out on that, on the show? They should've, it would have added some depth to their predicament.

I was ever so much more than twenty... which makes me ancient now. I loved Voyager and while 1 through 4 weren't great episodes, I loved the finale! I watch reruns if I can catch them. Loved DS9 too. Was sorry to see them both end.

But I couldn't shake the feeling that the finale was a parody of the Wayne's World "Scooby-Doo Ending" gag.
Next Gen enterprise pretty much blew up at every small impact and required some sort of time paradox to fix it.
Voyager was still fighting on the front lines when most of its outer hull was gone and it only had a torpedo launcher working with very limited shots.

I thought I saw all the episodes of Voyager, but I don't recall Threshold. Was it so bad I've blocked it from memory?

Now I'll have to go watch it on purpose. Curses!
'Threshold' is the only one on the list I remember. If the other four were from the fourth season or later, that would explain it. I was gone by then.

If you look very closely, the star formation just below the Voyager as it is jumping into warp during the opening vaugly resembles a shark. Perhaps the creators were trying to tell us something about the series?

Got links?
e.g., "st voyager opening"

For some reason, people were compelled to upload the opening credits for the show, repeatedly, for different seasons.

Looking at IXCP6lJkDZU (Opening Intro season 7) circa 1:40, I'd guess the red bit of nebula below the starlight is meant to be seen as a shark.

I haven't had any luck posting links here for a while, so I won't.

I'm thinking you meant 'Morale Officer'.
