I think your perspective is fair. Kendo UI is not "copyfree."
Rather, we offer Kendo UI under the GPLv3 in the spirit of "pragmatic idealism" (
http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/pragmatic.html). That is, we want to make Kendo UI freely available to others that are trying to produce and promote open software in the principles of the FSF (
http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/why-copyleft.html). We want to make a non-commercial, free license available as a gesture of support to other developers promoting free, open software.
Weaker, copyfree/non-copyleft licenses, are fine, but they are not compatible with our goals for the Kendo UI OSS license. I hope this makes sense. I'm very sorry Kendo UI doesn't fit your project licensing! Hopefully that doesn't block you from checking-out what I think is an awesome product!
