How do you motivate a manufacturer to do better by declaring their product dead? That's controversial...!

If you wanted to get a flurry of posts to generate some discussion on this, then you did it...but I think TechRepublic takes it on the chin in the long run. My respect index for this "news service" dropped to around zero - editorial or not...
