I understand that products take time to design, manufacture, and market. Sometimes, by the time a product finally launches, technology has already passed it by, or soon will. (I'm looking at you Droid Bionic.)
So, I can't help but wonder if the same could be said for Toshiba's new 10-inch Android tablet--the Excite X10. It looks like a good tablet, with an ultra-thin design and nice features. But with pricing that start at $529 (16GB version), I'm not sure it can compete with the quad-core tablets that are starting to hit the market, like the Asus Transformer Prime.
Perhaps the X10's super-thin case didn't allow enough space for a quad-core chip (as was the case for existing 4G modules), or the chip's specs weren't available during the design process. Whatever the reason, not using a premium processor, but charging a premium price might be the X10's downfall.

Yes, too much. Was waiting for the ultimate tablet, having tried and returned a Kindle, an Acer Iconia, a Lenovo Ideapad, DOA, and finally a Asus Transformer. Still waiting, The Transformer was the best of the lot but became unreliable on start up or failed to start- I think the 'start' button. Still cranking away on my old Vostro laptop and waiting for better apps and better prices.

In my opinion, the price is too high for this device. I understand that it has many important features and opportunities, but still it isn't an explanation for such a high price
I don't see the justification. Especially since the quad cores won't be much different and the iPad is right in there as well.
This kind of retro design is poor marketing. It's one of the myriad of reasons I stay away from Apple. The greed of releasing a model, then 6mos-1yr later releasing an "improved" model for the same or higher price does not breed allegiance. Whom do they think they're exciting exactly?! I'm still with my samsung net-book and very satisfied and not in the least tempted (yet) by the jetsam of releases. Even the mighty ipad I believe is still in its infancy.
I think Toshiba is taking the piss.
