Web development is certainly a lot further along now than it was even a year ago, and has become practical for a lot more applications. It's still maturing, though, so now is not the time to make long-term decisions about what works on the web and what doesn't. Chances are, what isn't practical now will be practical in a few years. Hang onto your hat!
