Hey Nick.
I think I'm missing the point here. Was it to get started and take this further? This is really just a single machine instance that happens to be a cloud instance. But it seems that using the cloud to full benefit will require separating at least the database (Amazon RDS) and then eventually having a load balancer in front of one or more web/php servers. Other pieces could be abstracted out as well of course.
