Novice and advanced users do not have to go to command line and use bcdedit anymore. Visual BCD Editor is a free GUI tool to allow complete editing of Windows 7 BCD. Boot loaders for Windows XP and later are created automatically (if missing) so your dual or multi boot system is created on click. And the dual boot repair functionality comes handy when things go wrong. Tool site - http://boyans.net
Hello Guys,
I own a dell studio 1569 laptop. It has a recovery partition and I have used it a couple of times to restore my computer to factory settings. Once I installed windows 2008 as a dual boot on this same machine and after all is done, I took out the windows 2008. I did this by editing the boot using a third party software. Now I need to repair my computer to factory settings and this is what I do
1. I restart my machine
2. I hold down f8 key repeatedly to go into the option where I can run repair
3. I select repair your computer
after selecting repair your computer option, my machine boots to the windows log on screen
I need help, what can I do to restore my machine to run the repair
thank you

The 'Discussion' forum is for matters of general discussion, not specific problems in search of a solution. The 'Water Cooler' is for non-technical discussions. You can submit a question to 'Q&A' here:
http://www.techrepublic.com/forum/questions/post?tag=mantle_skin;content
There are TR members who specifically seek out problems in need of a solution. Although there is some overlap between the forums, you'll find more of those members in 'Q&A' than in 'Discussions' or 'Water Cooler'.
Be sure to use the voting buttons to provide your feedback. Voting a '+' does not necessarily mean that a given response contained the complete solution to your problem, but that it served to guide you toward it. This is intended to serve as an aid to those who may in the future have a problem similar to yours. If they have a ready source of reference available, perhaps won't need to repeat questions previously asked and answered. If a post did contain the solution to your problem, you can also close the question by marking the helpful post as "The Answer". .
