Clarification...
Reading what I wrote I can see a need to clarify:
I do not want the vendors to go away. I simply want the usability of their product to have to compete with the usability of a Microsoft product. I don't think this would be an antitrust issue, as Microsoft does not (and should not) be a manufacturer. They should however be picking a good set of parts from good vendors who write great drivers that keep Windows stable, putting it together in a way that doesn't compromise user experience, and giving Joe User a place he can go to know he's picking up something that doesn't suck.
Microsoft could also sell vendor products, as they currently do in their Microsoft Store, that meet their own criteria and have been cleaned of any conflicting utilities, adware, or bloat that ruins the user experience. But I think those vendor products really need to have to compete with a product made by someone who wants the operating system to look good and deliver a good user experience.
