I played with the developers beta of w8. That lasted about 2 hour before I sent it to the bitbucket. I got in my way. That all I can say about my first impression of W8. And as far as tablets replacing desktops, not til you get cheap wireless broadband in this country. No way am I going to live on high price/slow speed access as my main connection. Every time I have to use my phone to access web content, I feel like I'm breathing through a straw. Why pay $40 a pound for bologna when I can get steak for $15.
