What goes around...
Once upon a time in the PC world, there was MS DOS, and for people who wanted a GUI, there was Windows, which ran on MS DOS. So, that really made Windows 3.11 an APP, didn't it? Then MS decided Windows should be an OS, and made it (appear?) so. Could that mean that the desktop concept (see Apple Mac) looked like the best foundation to serve the purposes of everyone? I've never seen Windows 8, however from what I read above, it appears that MS is about to turn (desktop) Windows back into an APP that runs on Windows 8 or Metro. I wonder if MS is heading toward multiple APPs that will run on one OS that cannot be used alone. Then people for whom a computer is a: toy will have to buy their game APP, server will have to buy their server APP, an entertainment/surfing/email center will have to buy the multimedia APP, and a tool will have to buy their desktop APP; along with the OS. Sounds like another way to squeeze more money out of the customer. If you want to use your computer as a tool, a toy and an entertainment center, you'll have to buy 3 apps and learn 3 different systems instead of 1.
