Uh, WHAT?
Microsoft ISN'T forcing people to upgrade? So you still have a channel to get PC's pre-installed with Windows XP? Can I get in on that?

It's a major pain to upgrade to a new OS. You have applications that don't work, users to re-train how to do things, administrators that have to learn all the new places Microsoft hid things in the Control Panel, plus the hardware/software costs. And Microsoft has this nonsensical idea that users want a new OS every 3 years! NO, WE DON'T!

We want a computer that will last 5-6 years at the very minimum, and it takes Microsoft at least 18 months after initial release to get out a service pack to fix the crap and problems in the first product run. That means that a realistic OS upgrade cycle should be closer to 8 years than 3.

I don't need all the flashy features in the OS. That's what applications are for.
