In the heady days of MS-DOS when bulletin boards were the precursor of the internet, everybody (well everybody who was interesting) wanted terminal emulation programs (programs like the windows release Hyperterminal) - CPM users used MEX, MS-DOS users had quite a range to chose from. One was the short lived Microsoft Access.....

Later the name rose, phoenix like, from its own ashes as a database program.
