I know that we are all piling on point # 10 but to me the bigger issue is that if the business process requires you to be available no matter what (and i am sorry, requiring you to miss the birth of your child is no matter what), then there is a major issues with the process. No one employee should be that indespensible. Personally, the birth of my kids were the most important moments of my life and missing them was never an option.
