You *can* have Ethernet on Arduino, but it's relatively rare to need or use it.

You're looking at this like a mini PC and missing the point. Look at it instead like an electronics prototyping / microprocessor programming platform. Embedded applications with a fast processor -- there's absolutely a purpose for that.
