Yes, I agree completely. But, as I said, the percentage of applications that fall into this category is falling... not because folks are doing less of it necessarily, but because so many businesses are doing so many data-aware apps.
Do I still work on apps that do not depend on a remote data source? Absolutely. Ironically, they tend to be smartphone apps... but the overwhelming majority of the projects I am on... and projects that most business developers are on... need a network connection, unless they plan on a caching/syncing strategy (which is a good idea in general).
