I remember the mantra 10 years ago was to write portable apps that could and would run on any OS, via languages like Java, its spinoff java script, and others. Linux was to be the all encompassing vessel for that deployment. Unfortunately, that vision of utopia has been hijacked by individual manufacturer greed and dictatorial policy. Android and its now many flavors came close, but now it too is divergent. Good luck Microsoft/Nokia, you may never get there.
