LBE Privacy Guard (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lbe.security.lite) is great for this situation. The program can set permissions for apps at a granular level. If you do not want an app to access GPS or the mobile network it can be turned off. I believe it is only for rooted phones and it is not for the novice either.
