My flashlight app recently asked for new permissions (phone identity). I also wondered why a flashlight app would need full network access and read the identity of the phone. Is this not crazy?

So I uninstalled it and looked for alternative apps. I found Search Light. This one needs only the permission to operate the flash. Proof that all the rest is useless.
