Making an absolute statement about the future is a futile game of guesswork. Just because you don't see a need or even a purpose now doesn't mean that can't change. I saw the need and the purpose long, long before they came out in their current form and yet I refused to purchase the previous version (Windows or Mac desktops on a modified laptop) because, simply put, those weren't "tablets" in the sense that they were intended for mobile use.
Sure, some companies went out and purchased a few and had software custom-written for their specific needs, but they didn't really fit the purpose they should be fitting. The new format is far, far better, but it's still not -quite- to that point. The limiting factor to me now is a simple one of handwriting recognition usable in any text-based application.
